Relational Harmony

Sacred Relationships
Jesus uses people to mediate his love and to serve as models and instruments of his redeeming power. At The Avenue we seek to enhance all relationships so that they all might glorify God. This young and growing ministry has four parts:

Sacred Search
This new study group is designed for singles, dating and pre-engaged couples. We are studying the book, Sacred Search by Gary Thomas. The author helps us look at relationships through psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual perspectives which creates a framework for understanding the why of marriage in a world that is grossly fixated on the who. His kingdom-first perspective gives us a Christ-centered understanding of God’s plan for marriage. Sacred Search is designed to help those who desire to marry and pursue marriage in a manner that deepens their faith, honors God, and blesses their future spouse.

Preparation for Marriage
The eldership at The Avenue Church believe the institution of marriage is a life long covenant between a man and a woman, ordained by God.  We love the marriage ceremony and what it represents and would be honored to participate in your special day. Couples who desire to be married by one of The Avenue pastors are encouraged to read and follow the Marriage Policy of The Avenue Church (see attachment).

Enriching Marriage
According to scripture in Ephesians 5:22-33 and 1 Peter 2:13-3:7, God created marriage to be a sweet picture of the Gospel in action. Marriage is a living parable of Christ’s deep, abiding, covenant-keeping, sacrificial love for His church. From Genesis through Revelation, marriage is seen as but a shadow of a far greater reality. Marriage is a statement to the world about the nature and character of God and how He chooses to relate to His people.

Marriage Repair
Do you feel stuck in an endless cycle of difficulty and discord? You do not need to face this alone. There is a way out. Often the pain in our marriages exposes personal pain we have not been willing to own and take responsibility for. It is far easier to blame unhappiness on what your mate is doing. Couples in trouble are often made up of individuals who have not been willing to take a humble look at themselves and take the necessary steps to cooperate with God in the personal work He desires to do. As we learn to cooperate with God, we can begin to experience His redeeming power in all of our relationships. Couples who desire the help of a mentor couple are encouraged to contact Jerry or Liz Hablitzel. You will be registered to take the Prepare-enrich assessment and then you will be assigned a mentor couple.
